2024 Insight Creative Writing Competition

This competition is open to high school students around Australia as we aim to ignite a passion for creative writing and inspire the voices of the future. Entering the competition is free and all entrants will have the chance to share in over $3000 worth of cash prizes! 

All shortlisted entries will also be judged by acclaimed Australian authors. Past judges have included Alice Pung, Arnold Zable, Cath Moore, Michael Pryor, Will Kostakis and Jack Henseleit. This year’s shortlist judges will be announced in the coming months, so make sure you follow us on Facebook and Instagram to see the official announcement!

Over the past seven years, we have had the pleasure of reading more than 1500 creative pieces from high school students around the country. If you’re a budding writer in high school, we’d love to see your work.

Each title in the Insight Framework of Ideas series is a comprehensive guide to one of the key ideas in the new VCE English/EAL Framework of Ideas. They each explore the idea in detail, unpack the four set mentor texts and outline a variety of approaches to developing effective and cohesive written pieces in a range of forms.

Each book features:

  • An overview of the key idea, exploring essential concepts and including a suggested list of supplementary texts
  • Detailed discussion of the four set mentor texts, explaining how they engage with the key idea and highlighting the structural elements, language features and vocabulary that students might draw on in their own writing
  • Suggestions for ways in which students might develop original texts in different forms, and for specific purposes and audiences
  • Guidelines for writing a reflection on the writing process
  • Annotated sample responses.
