SENIOR EDITOR

Insight Publications is a leading educational publisher currently seeking a part-time or full-time Senior Editor with a minimum of 5 years’ experience to join their dynamic team in Cheltenham, Victoria.

This position offers an opportunity for the right applicant to work closely and collaboratively with all members of the publishing, marketing, communications and finance teams. The Senior Editor will provide integral support to the publishing department by providing a high standard of developmental editing and copyediting services. They will also coordinate and manage all responsibilities for publications from the commissioning of manuscripts through to the printing stage. Hybrid working arrangements can be negotiated.

Responsibilities include:

• Demonstrating an extremely high standard of editing and writing skills
• Ensuring that publications are accurately edited for structure and style, including the application of design elements
• Working to specific deadlines
• Overseeing and managing the work of junior members of the publishing team
• Liaising with stakeholders and contributors, including overseeing the work of editors, proofreaders and designers
• Developing briefs for writers, editors, designers, proofreaders, illustrators, reviewers and other service providers
• Managing all administrative activities relating to projects
• Liaising with other departments to keep them apprised of key dates and information
• Communicating professionally with customers and stakeholders, including teachers, parents, booksellers and curriculum bodies.

You will have:

• A bachelor’s degree in writing, editing, English, Literature or a related field (a postgraduate qualification is desirable)
• A proven track record of managing and completing projects in an educational publishing house
• Excellent verbal and communication skills
• Knowledge and expertise in all phases of book development
• Project management experience
• Knowledge of editing trends, on-screen editing and multimedia publications, including experience and expertise editing in Microsoft Word
• An understanding of writing processes for different purposes and audiences
• Exceptional attention to detail.
